Data Center Operations Engineer

An innovative global trading firm (AUM $50bn) is hiring a Data Center Engineer to join the rapidly growing systems team based on the east coast who will be involved in the build and maintenance of the computers, networks, data storage, operating systems, and software that allow the trading strategies to run worldwide 24/7. The ideal candidate would have years of enterprise data center experience with an excellent understanding of racking, stacking, and troubleshooting.

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining the east coast data center, which would include managing power and space including monitoring and capacity planning
  • Maintaining a consistent and clean cable management philosophy and maintaining an inventory of equipment
  • Install, replace, and move cables and equipment, including switches, servers, and hardware components
  • Work with our IT Infrastructure and Development teams to plan and execute data center moves and re-organization, ensuring those plans are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Manage asset tracking and reporting, including warranties, service contracts, hardware, and software
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and respond in a timely manner to hardware failures using Linux
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for support and remote hands
  • Develop and maintain documentation of data center procedures and deployments

Qualities that make great candidates:

  • Years of enterprise Data Center experience (lifting and installing hardware, racking equipment, cabling, etc)
  • Comfortable using Unix shells and Linux
  • Knowledge of data center procedures (hardware racking, network cabling, etc.) and experience working in a modern, large-scale data center
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to executing plans accurately and on time
  • Understanding of network hardware (switches, SFPs), servers (memory, hard drives), and cabling (fiber optic cabling standards/types)
  • Strong Knowledge of structured cabling systems using cat5, cat6, multi-mode, and single-mode fiber
  • Ability to diagnose a problem quickly and identify solutions that ensure the uptime of the system
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred, but not required
  • Python and shell scripting experience a plus
